When can the puppies go to their new home?
We let the puppies go to their new home at 8 weeks old.
What kind of food should I feed my new puppy?
We recommend a diet high in nutrients where corn is not the first ingredient. We will provide you with a small bag of food to get you started when you take your puppy home.
Will the pups be vaccinated?
All puppies have been given their first shots and have been dewormed. Check the bottom of our Smart Start Program page for a schedule of puppy vaccinations.
What colors do German Shepherds come in?
Our Shepherds are offered in saddleback (black & red or black & tan), sable or blanket back (mostly black extending down the shoulders and hips).
How big will my Shepherd grow to be?
Our dogs range in size. But in general, your dog will stand about 22 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 70 and 85 lbs.
Should I register my dog with the AKC?
The AKC (American Kennel Club) will offer multiple benefits once you register. These can include a complimentary first veterinary visit, frameable AKC registration certificate, a one-year magazine subscription, and a three-generation AKC pedigree. For more information please visit the American Kennel Club website.
What is the process for picking out my puppy?
We usually start to receive visitors when the pups are about 3 weeks old. This gives them time to start developing some of their colors, open their eyes, and learn to walk (or waddle) around. Once you have visited the puppies and chose to purchase one, we will accept a non-refundable deposit to reserve a place, the price depends on the litter. We will allow customers to choose the pup they are wanting in the order that the deposits were received at 5 weeks old. Your pup will stay with their mother until 8 weeks old. The first 8 weeks of mother & pup bonding time is very important for their development.
Is a German Shepherd right for me?
According to the AKC, German Shepherds are one of the breeds that have remained steadily popular over the last three decades. Shepherds are very dedicated dogs, extremely loyal to their owners, and completely fearless when it comes to protecting their loved ones. These dogs also require extensive socializing to avoid aggression towards strangers and excessive barking. Energetic and fun-loving, the German Shepherd is very fond of children once a relationship is established. While they make excellent family pets, this breed is in constant need of human attention. They will follow you around the house, be right under your feet, and will go through severe separation anxiety if left alone (or outside) for long periods of time. If you lack the time or commitment, this is not the right breed for you.
How early will you accept a deposit and how can I make a payment?
We usually do not accept deposits until after the puppies have been born. This way we know exactly how many males and females we have and confirm that each puppy is healthy. Once you have chosen the right puppy for your family you may pay a deposit for us to hold the pup for you. We prefer cash only. Deposits have been mailed to us before but please use caution if sending cash in the mail!
How can I find out about updates and upcoming litters?
We try and update the website as much as possible. We also post updates on pregnant females, puppies and pictures on our Facebook page often. You are always free to call or email us at any time!
